Tech mogul Elon Musk is making headlines again, this time by putting up an intriguing array of items from the former Twitter building for auction, shortly after the company’s rebranding as X.
The auction, aptly titled ‘Twitter Rebranding: Online Auction Featuring Memorabilia, Art, Office Assets & More!’, is scheduled to kick off on September 12 and conclude within two days, as reported by the BBC.
Heritage Global Partners, the auction house overseeing the event, has set a modest starting bid of $25 for each item.
The diverse collection of 584 pieces up for auction includes captivating elements such as coffee tables, ornate bird cages, and oil paintings of viral sensations. Among the listed lots are an assortment of desks and chairs, a fully-equipped DJ booth, and a plethora of musical instruments, enough to assemble an entire band.
Interestingly, one of the Twitter signs on the auction block is still affixed to the company’s headquarters on San Francisco’s 10th Street. Potential buyers have been advised that if they win this unique piece, they would be responsible for hiring an SF Licensed Company with the necessary permits to facilitate its removal.
Notably, two oil paintings of iconic moments that took the internet by storm are also up for grabs. One portrays Ellen Degeneres’ star-studded selfie from the 2014 Academy Awards, while the second immortalizes the image shared by former US President Barack Obama upon his re-election in November 2012. At the time, it became the most-liked tweet on the platform.
This isn’t the first time Musk-associated companies have engaged in intriguing auctions. Earlier this year, hundreds of items, including the now-famous bird statue and various office assets, were offered for online auction from Twitter’s former San Francisco headquarters.
